A fire broke out in Lake of Bays, causing an estimated $200,000 in damage to one bunkie.
In the early hours of Sunday, firefighters were called to a structure fire on Menominee Lake Road.
When crews arrived on scene, they say they discovered a bunkie up in flames. Crews from Baysville and Huntsville, including 20 firefighters and five trucks, rushed to the scene.
Although the siding of a nearby garage was damaged, officials reported that firefighters were able to isolate the bunkie fire and stop it from spreading any further.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the blaze. The cause of the fire has not been determined due to the extensive damage.
Officials reported that the blaze was safely extinguished by 7:20 a.m., nearly two hours after it had been reported.
Fire officials say they are classifying the fire as ‘accidental.’
“The incident serves as a reminder for all residents to remain vigilant about fire safety, even when structures are not in use. It is important to regularly inspect your property for potential fire hazards, such as faulty wiring or debris buildup. Ensure that any heating sources are properly turned off and secured when not in use and keep the area around your property free of wood piles and other combustible materials that could ignite,” concluded officials from Huntsville and Lake of Bays.
