With Friday marking the end of Black History Month, dozens gathered at Bloom Bistro in Barrie on Saturday for a special celebration of Canadian Black history, arts and culture.
The ‘Speak Your Truth’ event featured local talent in dance, rap, poetry and other arts.
Tyneisha Thomas, Barrie’s poet laureate, says it’s important to celebrate Black Canadians year-round.
“It’s not just Black History Month in February,” said Thomas, also highlighting the success of the event. “It’s unity between whether you’re black or white, whatever race you are.”
