Cape Breton singer-songwriter Matt Minglewood talks with CTV's Katie Kelly about his upcoming shows.

Maritime musician Matt Minglewood,78, has no plans to slow down.

“So far, I feel good. People are always asking me, ‘Matt, when are you going to retire?’ My answer to them is, ‘Well, if I had your job and I retired, this is what I would do.’ So, I’m doing what I would have done anyway if I retired,” Minglewood said Friday in an interview with CTV’s Katie Kelly.

“I do feel good. I feel better. I went through a few things there in the last three or four years, but I’ve got great energy now and I’m good.”

The New Brunswick-born, Cape Breton-raised artist has travelled to the region’s largest city with his band for a show Saturday night. They’ll be performing at the Bruce Guthro Theatre at Casino Nova Scotia at 8 p.m.

“We do it once a year. It’s probably the only one we do in Halifax nowadays, so it’s a lot of fun,” said Minglewood.

“Me and the band, we just love to play together. It’s so much fun and we enjoy it so much.”

Minglewood has another busy year ahead with shows across the Maritimes and beyond.

“We’re playing all over,” he said. “We went up to Ontario last year for a couple of big blues festivals and had a great time, so we might do that again.”

Minglewood’s next scheduled show is May 30 at the Trailside Music Hall in Charlottetown.
