Halifax hip hop artist Kxng Wooz set to release deeply personal third album

Published:

Halifax hip hop artist Kxng Wooz is exploring his life experiences with his new album.

Hip hop artist Kxng Wooz who grew up in Halifax’s Uniacke Square is preparing to release his third studio album. He says it’s his most vulnerable and introspective project yet.

“It’s called Malik. And that name is my middle name,” Kxng Wooz said. “I speak about the death of my sister… that’s when I actually started to use music as an outlet, because it’s hard to express that. I talk about my mental health going forward from that point as well.”

To celebrate the release, Kxng Wooz is hosting a listening party Saturday night at The Seahorse Tavern in Halifax. The event will feature performances from some of the city’s rising stars, including Jody Upshaw, Kye Clayton and Quoia States.

“We’re just going to party. We’re going to have a good time. We’re going to celebrate the release of the project,” he said.

Kxng Wooz’s work doesn’t stop with his music. He supports and mentors local artists and industry professionals as the program coordinator for the African Nova Scotian Music Association (ANSMA).

“I’m an artist for the artists,” he says. “I work on programs for development, outreach for artists, and just community in general that want to be a part of the music industry.”

“Malik” drops April 2 and will be available on Bandcamp and all major streaming platforms.
