Federal, local governments spending $1.4M on shoreline protection in Mahone Bay, N.S.

The federal and local governments are spending more than $1.4 million to build a 450-metre addition to a transportation trail that will also protect the shoreline from erosion in Mahone Bay, N.S.

The Edgewater Street Shoreline Active Transportation Trail will get the addition along Mahone Bay Harbour, according to a news release from the Department of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. The federal government will spend $893,522 on the project while the Town of Mahone Bay will kick in $595,682.

“Mahone Bay is fortunate to have many trails crisscrossing our town, the addition of this accessible trail along Edgewater Street will allow us to increase active transportation opportunities for all residents and visitors,” said Mayor Suzanne Lohnes-Croft in the release.

The trail addition will include a built-out embankment and armour stone to protect the shoreline from erosion.
