Firefighters have spent more than 36 hours and counting at the scene of a fire on a busy Halifax street.
The fire broke out just after 12 a.m. Friday in the 6300 block of Quinpool Road. Halifax Regional Police and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency responded to the scene.
No one was injured in the fire. The building contained four businesses and three apartments.
As of Saturday, crews were still on scene to continue firefighting and demolition efforts.

“Fires like this can extend deep into voids and hidden spaces. The building was heavily compromised and had to be demolished during the response, which exposed new hot spots and made full extinguishment more complex,” the Halifax Professional Fire Fighters Association wrote on Facebook.
“Our members have remained on scene, working to safely put out every last ember.”

Excavators could be seen at the site among the charred remains of the building.
Quinpool Road between Preston Street and Oxford Street remained closed as of Saturday afternoon.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
