A new obstetrics and newborn care unit was unveiled Friday at the Moncton Hospital.

The Government of New Brunswick announced the “modern, state-of-the-art” care unit will provide “advanced, innovative care to newborns and their families.”

“Newborns, their families and our dedicated staff will benefit from having a full spectrum of services under one roof in a modernized, comfortable and family-centred environment,” said Health Minister John Dornan in a news release.

The government spent $33.6 million on the care unit. The project is a partnership between the provincial government, Horizon Health Network and the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation.

“This modern unit enhances the experience for patients and families while providing our care teams with a space that supports excellence in compassionate care,” said Margaret Melanson, president and CEO of Horizon Health Network.

The new space will give doctors, patients and families access to the latest technology and centralize medical services for newborns and families.
