Former N.B. police officer charged with making child pornography

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) says a former Edmundston, N.B., police officer has been charged with child pornography offences.

SiRT says a member of the public reached out to them on Aug. 29, 2024, about secretly recorded images and videos on a computer belonging to a former member of the Edmundston Police Force.

The images and videos were allegedly taken while the officer was employed by the force.

On March 3, the former officer – whose identity is being withheld to protect the identities of the victims – was charged with:

-making child pornography

-possessing child pornography

-two counts of voyeurism

The officer is scheduled to appear at the Edmundston provincial court on March 11.

SiRT is responsible for investigations into death, serious injury, intimate partner violence and sexual assault that may have arisen from the actions of police officers in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
