A soggy Friday night in store for the Maritimes

There will be lots of rain, drizzle, and fog around the Maritimes Friday night. Areas in New Brunswick will turn to a brief period of spring snow and cooler weather is expected by Sunday.

Rain and snow

If you are headed out with Friday night plans, expect a damp one. There will be rain, drizzle, and fog for all three Maritime provinces.

The rain will total five to 20 mm for most of the Maritimes. Rain totals could be as high as 25 to 40 mm in Richmond and Victoria Counties in Cape Breton, which are all under a rainfall warning.

The rain will turn to a period of snow for northern and western areas of New Brunswick Friday evening and night. The snow could accumulate as much as one to five centimetres. Low temperatures in New Brunswick Friday night will also fall to near and below freezing, so watch for any wet surfaces to turn icy by Saturday morning.

Clearing and mild for Saturday

The last of the rain is expected to clear eastern Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island Saturday morning.

The cloud will be clearing to a fair weather mix of sun and cloud for the Maritimes behind it. A breezy northwest wind will be sustained 10 to 30 km/h with occasional gusts of 30 to 50 km/h.

High temperatures will reach 9 to 12 degrees for New Brunswick, 7 to 11 degrees for Nova Scotia, and 7 to 10 degrees for P.E.I.

Cooler Sunday with a few flurries and showers

A cold front moves across the Maritimes Saturday night into Sunday morning.

A cooler band of March weather will be ushered in behind the front. High temperatures on Sunday will be -4 to + 2 for New Brunswick, 4 to 7 degrees for Nova Scotia, except 7 to 11 degrees for the east of the province, including Cape Breton, and highs of 2-to-5 degrees for P.E.I.

A trough of low pressure sitting over the Maritimes on Sunday will produce some spotty flurries and showers with a 20-to-40 per cent chance of any given community seeing a few of those through the day.

A gusty northwest wind will develop through the day. Peak gusts of 40-to-60 km/h are expected for the Maritimes.
