Winnipeg man arrested in stabbings, robbery of taxi driver: Police

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) has laid charges after two people were stabbed and a taxi driver was robbed during an incident on Tuesday evening.

According to police, the incident began in the first 100 block of Keewatin Avenue when a 26-year-old woman and 33-year-old man got into an argument. Police note the argument escalated, and the woman, as well as a 37-year-old man, were stabbed in the upper body.

Officers were called to the attack around 6:50 p.m. and provided medical care to the victims until the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service got to the scene. Both victims were taken to the hospital in unstable condition but have since been updated to stable condition.

The victims and suspects are known to each other.

Following the stabbings, the suspect ran away and got into a taxi, travelling to the 800 block of Main Street. Police allege that before he got out of the taxi, he took out a knife and robbed the driver. The taxi driver was not physically injured.

Around 7:25 p.m., officers found the suspect in the 800 block of Main Street and took him into custody. Police also seized a knife during the arrest.

A 33-year-old Winnipeg man is facing charges including possession of a weapon, robbery, assault with a weapon and two counts of aggravated assault. He’s in custody.
