Manitoba spending $72 million to build expansion for personal care home

A care home in Transcona is getting an expansion to help provide more spaces for seniors.

The province announced Thursday that it will be spending $72 million to expand Park Manor Personal Care Home by 90 beds.

“We’re celebrating a new beginning for long-term care in Transcona, and the province,” said Uzoma Asagwara, Manitoba’s Health Minister.

The 90 beds will be private rooms, which is something residents have been asking for, Asagwara said. Many of the seniors in the facility live in semi-private or four-bed rooms.

“Our board of directors, management and staff, residents and their family members, have been advocating to update the facility for years,” said Abednigo Mandalupa, Park Manor CEO.

Asagwara said work will get started this year, with the expansion being completed in 2028.
