‘It’s been a lot of fun’: St. Vital yard transformed into playground made of snow

A yard in Winnipeg’s St. Vital neighbourhood has been transformed into a snowy playground helping neighbourhood kids slide into some winter fun.

Howard Queau, in collaboration with his eight-year-old neighbour, created the winter wonderland on a Cabot Crescent front yard over winter break.

The yard features archways, statues, and a castle built around a culvert with three slides—all of which are made from snow.

Queau said this is the first time he’s ever done something like this, adding that it was a learning experience.

“I’m just having fun myself doing it,” he said in an interview on Wednesday.

“I’m a carpenter by trade, so I’m not un-handy. It’s been a lot of fun for me just building it.”

Queau said the response has been amazing, with people stopping by to take pictures and kids spending time there sledding after school.

He said he plans to create another snowy playground next year.
