Impact of 3 years of SSNAPP initiative to address opioid crisis

Windsor police are releasing three years of statistics for an initiative aimed at address the opioid crisis and enhance community safety.

Over the last 3 years, police officers have partnered with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and the City of Windsor for the Substance Supports in Neighbourhoods Accessed through Police Partnerships (SSNAPP).

Here’s what police say they’ve accomplished together:

1100+ Neighbourhood Safety Plans Distributed

-Targeted to 4 high-priority postal codes (N9A, N8W, N8X, N8Y).

-24 Training Workshops

-Trained 820 local service providers in de-escalation and support for addiction and trauma.

-11 Community Events

-500+ attendees gained tools for overdose prevention and safety.

-2,432 Calls Addressed by Nurse and Police Team

-524 referrals made to mental health/substance use providers.

-771 individuals diverted from emergency departments.

Funding ends in March 2025, but police say the potential to expand and build on this progress is immense.
