How to properly place election signs in Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent is reminding residents to properly place election signs, after receiving multiple complaints through 311.

It says it is now enhancing its Election Campaign bylaw.

When placing a sign, it must follow these rules:

• Must not block visibility for drivers, cyclists, or pedestrians
• Must not obstruct sidewalks, roads, or driveways, or create a public safety hazard
• Cannot be placed in parks, on roadways, traffic islands, or within visibility triangles at intersections
• Cannot be attached to utility poles, light poles, trees, traffic signs, bus shelters, benches, mailboxes, waste receptables, or other municipal infrastructure
• Cannot be placed on property owned or occupied by the municipality, Chatham-Kent Energy, Chatham-Kent PUC, or other municipal local boards
• Must be maintained in good condition throughout the campaign

Staff at the municipality will be monitoring campaign signs throughout the election period. Any sign on municipal property or that doesn’t comply with the bylaw will be removed until Aug. 27.

When signs are collected, Chatham-Kent says they are not destroyed, and candidates can arrange a pickup time.
