Get your shovels ready: Up to 10cm of snow forecasted for Windsor-Essex

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Windsor-Essex with up to 10 centimetres of snow in the forecast.

Snow, freezing rain and rain is expected late Wednesday into Thursday.

The forecaster says the snowfall amounts could be up to 10 cm and there’s also a risk of freezing rain.

Snowfall associated with a low pressure system is likely for the area. Environment Canada said confidence in the exact track of the low pressure system is uncertain at this point, but it is likely that snow will transition to freezing rain or rain later Wednesday night with temperatures expected to rise above the freezing mark.

If the track of the low shifts farther south, more of the precipitation would fall as snow which would increase snowfall amounts. Regardless of the track of the weather system, hazardous travel conditions are likely Wednesday evening and Wednesday night. Motorists are urged to exercise caution.
