Driver charged after Valentine’s Day RIDE program

Essex County OPP say a driver was arrested at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint on Valentine’s Day.

Members of the Leamington OPP Detachment conducted a traffic stop to check sobriety of the driver at a RIDE checkpoint on Erie Street South in Leamington at 11:28 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.

A 40-year-old Leamington man was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences:

-Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

-Drive motor vehicle - No licence

A 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Windsor on February 27, 2025, to answer to the charges.
