Crews battle 2 separate fires in Chatham-Kent

Firefighters in Chatham-Kent were kept busy with two fires over the Family Day long weekend.

On Monday at 2:36 p.m., crews were dispatched for reports of a structure fire at 46 Patteson Ave. that caused $400,000 in damage.

Upon arrival crews could see smoke and flames from the rear of the duplex. Firefighters stretched lines through the front door and began attacking the fire. Second arriving crews pulled lines the rear of the structure after gaining access through narrow congested pathways and locked gates.

Fire officials say they were met with intense heat and flames finding the entire rear of the home on fire. Firefighters were able to complete a primary search of the upper and lower residence, giving an all clear. Additional firefighters were called as the fire went into void spaces in walls and attic spaces.

Firefighters cut several holes in the roof and pulled ceilings down and were able to extinguish the fire and bring it under control. Entegrus, Enbridge and EMS were also on scene.

No one was home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported. Cause is listed as undetermined.

Mobile home fire

On Sunday at 8:39 a.m., fire crews responded to 29737 Zone 7 Rd in Bothwell for a reported structure fire.

Upon their arrival they confirmed a fully engulfed mobile home with attached garage and addon buildings along with a camping trailer. The camping trailer on the property was already collapsed from the fire when crews arrived.

Fire officials say unfortunately two dogs died inside. The tenants of the trailers were not injured.

Heavy equipment was eventually brought to the scene to pull apart the collapsed structure and complete fire extinguishment.

The cause is listed as undetermined.
