Witnesses heard gunshots, but did not call police, Abbotsford PD says

The Abbotsford Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place south of the city centre, near the airport, earlier this week.

Officers were called to the 900 block of Columbia Street around 8 a.m. on Tuesday after a resident “discovered bullet holes in their home,” the department said in a news release Thursday.

“Witnesses reported hearing gunshots around 12:40 a.m., but did not contact the police at that time,” the release reads.

“Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident.”

The Abbotsford Police Department Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation, police said, asking the public to “report any suspicious activity in the area.”

Investigators are “working diligently to ascertain the motive” behind the shooting, and anyone with information or dash cam video recorded between midnight and 1 a.m. on Feb. 11 should call the department, police added.
