Teen charged after stabbing in downtown Vancouver

One man is in hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing in Yaletown early Friday morning.

A teenager has been charged after a stabbing in downtown Vancouver left a man in hospital with serious injuries Friday.

The British Columbia Prosecution Service confirms that 18-year-old Ian Koldenhof is facing one charge each of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Vancouver police were called to reports of an altercation near the intersection of Hamilton and Davie streets early Friday morning.

Vancouver police spokesperson Tania Visintin says two people were having a cigarette outside their condo building when two others approached them around 1 a.m. and a fight ensued.

A 32-year-old man was stabbed and two 18-year-old suspects fled towards the Yaletown-Roundhouse SkyTrain station. The victim followed the alleged assailants to the station before collapsing at the entrance, police said.

The two suspects were arrested at the scene. The transit station remained closed to the public for several hours.

The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive, according to police.

Koldenhof appeared in court Friday evening and was released from custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 12 in Vancouver’s downtown community court.

No other charges have been laid in the incident.
