Surrey man killed in crash near Hope, B.C.

A 50-year-old man from Surrey is dead after going off the highway near Hope, B.C., on Wednesday, according to police.

Drivers called police just after 1 p.m. to report an older white Ford F-350 pickup truck with a camper attached had driven off the road on Highway 1 at Flood Hope Road, B.C. Highway Patrol said in a news release.

“The truck landed in terrain that was rocky and difficult to access, and in spite of the efforts of first responders, the driver and lone occupant was declared dead at the scene,” police wrote.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 1 were closed for the investigation but have since reopened.

Police say criminality is not suspected in the crash.
