Injured cyclist has no recollection of what happened on Richmond street, RCMP say

Authorities are asking for the public’s help getting to the bottom of a mysterious incident in Richmond, B.C., that left a cyclist hospitalized last month.

Richmond RCMP said the cyclist was injured while heading northbound on No. 5 Road on the evening of Jan. 23 – but has no memory of what happened.

“The cyclist remembers attempting to pass an unoccupied parked car but has no further recollection,” said Cpl. Adriana O’Malley, in a statement.

A Good Samaritan spotted the hurt cyclist on the roadway and flagged down an RCMP officer, who called for an ambulance.

Weeks later, investigators have not been able to determine the circumstances that led to the cyclist’s injuries.

O’Malley urged any potential witnesses who were in the area of No. 5 Road, between Steveston Highway and Kingsbridge Road, from 5:10 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. on the evening of the incident to come forward.

“This area has a high flow of traffic,” O’Malley told CTV News. “We are asking anyone who may have been traveling in the area who witnessed this incident or may have dash cam footage to contact Richmond RCMP.”

The RCMP would not confirm the severity of the cyclist’s injuries, other than to say they required hospitalization, or comment on whether investigators believe the incident could have been a hit-and-run.
