Driver ‘flashed a weapon’ outside Maple Ridge high school, police say

Police in Maple Ridge are investigating a strange incident that occurred outside a local high school this week.

Ridge Meadows RCMP said they were called to the school in the 24700 block of Dewdney Trunk Road shortly before noon on Wednesday for “a report that a male driver was believed to have flashed a weapon at students.”

Mounties did not name the school in their news release Friday, but the high school on that block is Garibaldi Secondary.

“Police learned that there was a verbal altercation between the driver and students,” police said in the release.

“It was reported that the driver had displayed a weapon to the students before returning to his vehicle.”

Investigators have been unable to locate the vehicle or identify the driver, police said, adding that they are hoping to speak with the man who was behind the wheel.

Police described the vehicle as a “two-toned grey” Range Rover with a “black driver’s side quarter-panel vent” and black wheels. They included a black-and-white photo of the vehicle with their release.

The driver was a “light-skinned Middle Eastern man” with dark-coloured short hair and a “short, stubble beard,” according to police, who gave his height and weight as 5′10″ and 175 to 180 pounds.

He was wearing “a black Mooseknuckle brand jacket with gold trim and black pants,” police said.
