Nurse, 75, allegedly sexually assaulted long-term care home resident while on shift in Newcastle, Ont.

A 75-year-old nurse allegedly sexually assaulted a long-term care home resident during his shift in Newcastle, Ont., last October.

Durham Regional Police say the accused was employed at Fosterbrooke Long-Term Care Home, which is located at 330 King Avenue West, just east of Pedwell Street, for about 13 years between 2011 and 2024.

Police say the suspect was found in the resident’s room where he was allegedly inappropriately touching the victim.

In a release issued on Friday, police charged Oshawa resident Eliezer Magdamo with sexual assault. The charge has not been tested in court.

Police believe there may be more victims and have shared where Magdamo previously worked, which includes the Whitby Mental Health Centre (known as Ontario Shores now) from 1989 to 2011 and the Altima Long-Term Care home (the Glen Rouge Community/Long-Term Care facility) from 2011 to 2015.
