Saskatoon expands child health clinic hours with evenings, Saturdays

The Saskatchewan Health Authority says extended clinic hours and newly added Saturday services will be available at Child Health Clinics in Saskatoon starting the week of June 28.

In a news release sent Thursday, the SHA says the clinics also provide an opportunity for public health nurses to offer screening, support and information to families to help promote healthy growth and development in children.

“Parents want the best for their children, and keeping immunizations up to date is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect their health. These additional clinic hours provide families with greater flexibility and help ensure more children receive their vaccines on schedule,” SHA medical health officer Dr. Vivian Onaemo said.

Routine childhood immunizations are offered free of charge at Child Health Clinics across the province, starting at two months of age.

The SHA reiterated that vaccines are one of the safest ways to protect against serious diseases and are most effective when given on schedule, before exposure occurs.

Children who are up to date on their immunizations are less likely to get sick and can help reduce the spread of disease in the community, including to people who cannot be vaccinated, according to the health authority.
