Crews battle massive fire at multiple homes in Saskatoon

Crews are battling a massive fire at multiple homes in Saskatoon’s northwest on Friday.

The Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) says the call came in at 12:04 p.m. for a two-alarm, multiple-structure fire on the 400 block of Geary Crescent.

Crews arrived to thick, heavy black smoke, with at least one structure fully engulfed in flames.

Photos shared online show heavy black smoke billowing into the sky as firefighters battled the fast-moving fire in the residential neighbourhood on Saskatoon’s west end.

Flames can be seen tearing through the roofs of homes while emergency crews spray water to stop the blaze from spreading to nearby houses.

The fire department says two aerial units, four engines, one rescue unit and a command 9 responded, with about 32 firefighters on scene, including a deputy chief, battalion chief and safety officer.

SFD says crews have taken a defensive position to prevent the fire from spreading further and the public is being asked to avoid the area.

According to the fire department, all occupants were safely evacuated and there are no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

As of 1:54 p.m., fire crews were on scene and the fire department says more information will be provided as it becomes available.
