Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation invests $3.3 million to amateur football

The Roughrider Foundation has committed $5 million into communities across the province, with a $3.3 million investment into amateur football.

The investment covers costs for equipment, program support and branded flag football kits to 700 Saskatchewan schools.

The funding will also go toward the Northern Saskatchewan Football League, KidSport and scholarships for Indigenous students.

“Our reach across Saskatchewan speaks to the heart of what this Foundation is all about; showing up for communities, removing barriers, and creating opportunities for young people to thrive,” said Executive Director Cindy Fuchs in a news release.

The team says the money is supposed to ensure that young athletes in communities of all sizes have access to the game of football.

The release also highlighted the foundation’s commitments to education and wellness.

“From the football field to the classroom, we’re seeing firsthand how sport, literacy, and wellness can build resilience, pride, and leadership in youth,” Fuchs said.

“That’s the kind of impact that lasts far beyond a single season.”

The Roughrider Foundation touted the success of community programs like Rider Reading and Win With Wellness which it promoted in school classrooms.

The foundation visited 181 schools over the last year, engaging with over 45,000 youths through in-person programming.

It also delivered 878 presentations of its Rider Reading program, addressing 21,648 students.

A total of 430 Win With Wellness presentations were delivered across the province over the past year to 24,071 students. The program is centered around conversations about mental health, physical activity and positive lifestyle choices.

“These numbers represent far more than statistics. They reflect real moments of impact,” said Craig Reynolds, board chair of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation.

“Whether it’s a young student discovering a love for reading, building confidence through football, or learning the importance of mental wellness, we are proud to stand alongside communities across Saskatchewan. Being champions on the field means nothing without being champions off it.”
