Estevan police officer faces new charge of breaching conditions

An officer with the Estevan Police Service (EPS), who was the subject of a criminal investigation, is now facing a new charge of breaching conditions.

Following an investigation in November of 2024, the two-year member of the EPS was charged with assault, uttering a threat to cause bodily harm and mischief under $5,000.

The investigation, conducted by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT), began on Nov. 19 and the officer was arrested 10 days later.

However, in an update on Thursday, SIRT revealed that the officer allegedly broke his release conditions – leading to a second arrest on Dec. 22.

“EPS notified SIRT that the subject officer was believed to have had contact with one of the parties named on the undertaking,” the update read.

“Following a comprehensive review of the evidence gathered both by EPS and SIRT, it was determined that reasonable grounds existed to believe the subject officer had committed a Criminal Code offence.”

According to SIRT, the accused appeared before a justice of the peace and was released.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Jan. 20.
