Worker killed in Gatineau, Que. after being struck by vehicle during snow-clearing operation

The Gatineau Police Service (SPVG) says a worker has died following a collision during a snow-clearing operation Monday afternoon.

It happened shortly before 1 p.m. in the area of La Vérendrye Boulevard West and de Cannes Street, just west of Highway 50.

Police said a heavy vehicle struck the worker, who was part of a subcontracting company doing snow removal in the area.

The worker, who has not been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“For the moment, there is no evidence of criminal conduct. Investigators are assisting the coroner in determining the causes and circumstances of the event,” Gatineau police said in a news release in French.

La Vérendrye Boulevard West, between Gatineau Avenue and de Cannes Street, as well as de Cannes Street, between de Rayol and de Saint-Vallier streets, are closed to traffic for an indefinite period, police said.

“Out of respect for the family, no additional details will be released,” the news release said.

“The SPVG would like to thank the citizens present who came to the victim’s aid and contacted emergency services.”
