The driver of a cement truck is facing a careless driving charge after striking a barrier and causing over two hours of traffic slowdowns on Highway 417 in Ottawa Wednesday, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

After the truck struck a barrier on the right side of the highway near the Vanier Parkway, it partially blocked a lane, the OPP said in a post on X.

Police note that the truck was taken out of service following the incident, as it was severely damaged.

The driver is facing a $490 fine and six demerit points, if convicted.
