Ottawa tow company, owner charged for operating without a proper tow licence, OPP says

An Ottawa tow company and its owner are facing charges after police discovered they were operating without a proper tow licence, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

Police say officers called Mayday Towing for a broken-down vehicle on Highway 416 Tuesday night.

“When the tow company arrived, police found that the owner/driver was operating without a proper tow licence for Ontario,” the OPP said on X.

The owner and the company are facing charges under the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The owner/driver was charged with Tow Truck Driver-Fail to comply with prescribed requirements and standards. The fine under the Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act is $365. Police say the company was charged with Tow Owner - Fail to comply with prescribed requirements and standards. The fine is $430.

On Monday, Ontario Provincial Police charged a Quebec tow truck driver for operating illegally in Ontario. Police say the driver was stopped by police on Highway 417 near Walkley Road.

“The driver and the company, both from Quebec, were not properly licenced to operate in Ontario,” police said.
