Ottawa Rapid FC’s inaugural season kicks off April 27

Ottawa’s new professional women’s soccer team has announced its inaugural season schedule.

The Ottawa Rapid FC’s season kicks off at TD Place Stadium at 1 p.m. April 27 against AFC Toronto. The team will play 25 matches, with 10 Saturday games and five Sunday games. Thirteen matches will be played at home at TD Place.

“Our first-ever schedule release marks a major milestone for the club, and we couldn’t be more excited to unveil it,” said Stephanie Spruston, Ottawa Rapid FC Chief Operating Officer in a news release Thursday. ”We’ve heard from fans eager for a mix of weekend and weeknight matches to fit into their summer plans. With a good balance of sunny afternoon weekend matches and exhilarating games under the lights, our fans will have ample opportunity to experience the energy and passion of live soccer throughout the summer.”

Ottawa will not have any home games between June 21 and July 25 during the international break.

The Ottawa Rapid FC is part of the new Northern Super League (NSL), which consists of six clubs: Ottawa Rapid FC, Vancouver Rise FC, Calgary Wild FC, Montreal Roses FC, AFC Toronto and Halifax Tides FC. Ottawa will face the other teams five times each over the course of the regular season. At the end of the regular season, the top four clubs will qualify for the NSL Playoffs, and the two semifinal winners will advance to the NSL Championship.

Games will also be broadcast on multiple platforms, with nine Ottawa Rapid FC games on TSN and two on the CBC.
