Multiple flights diverted to Ottawa after Toronto plane crash

Nearly a dozen flights bound for Toronto were diverted to Ottawa after a serious plane crash at Pearson International Airport on Monday.

An Ottawa airport spokesperson says a total of 11 flights were rerouted from Toronto to the nation’s capital. Three other flights were able to continue their scheduled routes when Pearson airport reopened late in the afternoon.

Some of the flights included WS 1227 (Orlando to Toronto), AC 162 (Edmonton to Toronto), AC 1023 (Fort Lauderdale to Toronto), KLM 691 (Amsterdam to Toronto) and AF 356 (Paris to Toronto), according to FlightRadar24.

Many flights have also been diverted to Montreal and other regional airports.

“Aside from the flights to and from YYZ being affected, it’s a typical operation at YOW that includes residual delays and cancellations from the storm that impacted many cities in North America over the past several days,” said Ottawa Airport Authority spokesperson Krista Kealey in an email.

The Ottawa airport website showed at least a dozen flights from Ottawa to Toronto were delayed with four cancellations.

“We are supporting the airlines and ground handlers, and have extra resources on hand in the event that any of the flights are deplaned and passengers require support,” Kealey said.

All scheduled passengers were urged to check the status of their flights before coming to the airport.

Arrivals and departures at Pearson resumed as of 5 p.m. ET, the airport said.

The crash involving Delta Airlines flight 4819 from Minneapolis crash landed on arrival in Toronto Monday afternoon, injuring at least 17 people.
