A father suspected of killing his two sons in a double-murder suicide was on probation for threatening his ex-wife. CTV’s Natalie van Rooy reports.

Father suspected in double-murder suicide was on probation for threatening ex-wife: Court documents

New details have emerged about the man police believe is responsible for a double murder-suicide earlier this week that left two boys dead.

Court documents show the boys’ father, 40-year-old Mohammed Al-Lami, was on probation after he was found guilty of threatening his ex-wife.

According to the court documents, in January 2024, he was charged with threatening to cause bodily harm to his ex-wife in an email.

He was found guilty in April of this year and received a conditional discharge with 12 months of probation, meaning if he abided by his probation terms, he would not have a criminal record. His conditions included not communicating with his ex-wife except with prior written consent or through a third party or court order to arrange contact with his children.

According to court records from September 2024, Al-Lami had custody of at least one of his sons every other weekend, per a family court agreement. Ottawa police say they will not be releasing the identities of the children out of respect for the family.

Al-Lami was also charged with threatening to cause bodily harm to a man in an email in January 2024. That charge was withdrawn in April 2026.

Al-Lami was a dentist and according to the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario’s directory, he worked at an office in Ottawa and an office in Iroquois. Police responded to a fire at the Iroquois office around 2 a.m. on Monday. The office was one of three crime scenes involved in the investigation.

“I heard sirens and I said to my husband, ‘I hear sirens’ and he said ‘no you don’t’ and I said ‘I hear sirens.’ It was 2:05 in the morning and then I woke up to this news,” said Colleen Robinson, who is a former dental patient at the Iroquois location.

Residents later learned that the blaze was connected to the double-murder suicide in Ottawa. Al-Lami’s sons, aged 7 and 12, were found dead inside his Findlay Creek home on Mandevilla Crescent Monday morning.

“It’s a sad situation for everybody,” said Barbara Lewis, who lives in Iroquois. “It’s devastating for our town and people around us.”

Al-Lami’s body was found inside a burnt-out vehicle in a carpool lot along Highway 416 near Kemptville on Monday.

Police tape still surrounds the dental office days later.

“He was my dentist and it’s just unbelievable it could happen,” said Robinson. “Very, very shocked and especially because this is a little town. In this town there might be 2,000 people and we are all shocked. It’s just unbelievable.”
