Driver thrown from snowmobile, hits a tree following a crash near Greely

Ottawa Fire Services says a man in his 40s was rescued by firefighters and paramedics and taken to hospital following a snowmobile incident that happened Tuesday afternoon near Greely, a suburban-rural community in the capital.

Firefighters say they received a call around 5:30 p.m. from Ottawa police, reporting a man was thrown from their snowmobile around 500 metres east of the intersection of Nick Adams and Manotick Station roads, and struck a tree.

When crews arrived at the scene and made their way into the trail, they found the driver conscious and laying on their back. They note that he had sustained a serious injury to his arm.

“Our (Utility Train Vehicle) UTV with snow tracks was dispatched to the scene from our fire station in Greely and used to bring our partners from (The Ottawa Paramedic Service),” firefighters added.

Paramedics and firefighters packaged the driver in a stokes basket and used the UTV to bring him off the trail. He was then taken to hospital in non-life-threatening condition by an ambulance at 6 p.m.
