Thunder Bay police seize $380K in drugs, handgun

Police in Thunder Bay have charged a southern Ontario suspect and seized a large amount of fentanyl with an estimated street value of $380,000.

The discovery was made June 23 when police received a call for service about someone believed to be carrying a firearm at a business on Memorial Avenue.

“Further investigation and a search of the area led to a suspect being identified, located and arrested,” police said in a news release June 29.

“A search of the suspect led to the seizure of a revolver-style handgun, over 1.5 kilograms of suspected fentanyl and over $5,000 in cash.”

The 22-year-old suspect from Richmond Hill was charged with drug trafficking and weapons offences, including having a firearm with a serial number that had been tampered with.

The accused was remanded into custody following their first court appearance with a future court date.
