Sudbury driver charged for not clearing snow off vehicle

With another blizzard on the way to northeastern Ontario, provincial police are reminding drivers to take the proper safety precautions or risk getting ticketed.

A minivan driver was pulled over on Highway 69 in Sudbury and given an $85 ticket for not having a clear view to the rear of the vehicle, Ontario Provincial Police said on Tuesday.

The photo of the vehicle posted by OPP shows the rear window of the vehicle and passenger side windows coated with thick snow as well as several inches of snow on the vehicle’s roof and bumper.

“The driver was also warned about clearing the snow from the roof of the vehicle, which can lead to a charge of insecure load,” OPP said.

A ticket for an insecure load comes with a $130 fine.

“The OPP would like to emphasize the importance of clearing your vehicle’s window, especially the rearview window before driving,” police said.

“Before hitting the road, always clear snow, ice, and fog from your rearview window, side mirrors and all windows. Limited visibility increases the risk of collisions and puts everyone at risk.”
