Search warrants uncover weapons, $160K in drugs in northern Ont.

Two people are charged and $160,000 in drugs were seized during a series of two raids in the Temiskaming Shores area of northern Ontario.

Separate police raids in New Liskeard and Haileybury this week netted weapons, cash and illegal drugs with a street value of more than $160,000.

Ontario Provincial Police said Friday that two people are now charged with trafficking and weapons offences following the execution of search warrants on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13.

The first took place Feb. 12 on Armstrong Street in New Liskeard, the second the following day on Niven Street in Haileybury.

“A search at both locations led to the seizure of drugs suspected to be fentanyl, methamphetamine, crystal methamphetamine, and crack cocaine,” police said in a news release Friday.

Also seized were a handgun, rifles, brass knuckles, air rifles, ammunition, a stun gun, cellphones, digital scales and Canadian currency.

Man, woman charged

Charged in the case is a 29-year-old man from New Liskeard, who faces more than a dozen weapons and drug-related offences, as well as one count each of a violating probation order and failing to comply with an undertaking.

A 20-year-old woman, also from New Liskeard, faces the same weapons and trafficking charges, as well as one count of breach of recognizance.

“Both accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury on Feb. 14,” police said.
