Retired Sudbury teacher guilty of indecent assault of a male student in the 1970s

The Ontario College of Teachers is holding a disciplinary hearing Tuesday for a former Sudbury teacher who was found guilty of indecent assault.

Marcel Francois J. Lemieux is accused of professional misconduct by the College by engaging in behaviour “regarded by members as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional.”

Lemieux began teaching in 1972 and was listed as inactive as of 2017. He worked for the Sudbury Catholic School Board for his entire career.

He was accused of fondling the genitals of a student on two separate occasions between Sept. 1, 1978, and Sept. 1, 1979.

He was charged Dec. 15, 2021, with one count of indecent assault and he pled guilty to the charge in May 2023. He received a conditional sentence of six months.

“The member did not appeal his conviction or sentence and the appeal period has expired,” the College said in its hearing notice for Lemieux’s case.

The hearing will be held Feb. 25.
