Rainfall helps firefighters supress Timmins 9 forest fire

Ontario Forest Fires says rainfall Tuesday and Wednesday helped improve suppression efforts in battling Timmins 9.

“The fire received 18 millimetres of rain from Tuesday ... overnight into Wednesday,” the agency said in a news release.

“The fire exhibited minimal fire behaviour Wednesday following the rain, which allowed for crews to continue to make good progress with fire suppression operations.”

While the fire remains out of control, its size has been updated to 3,151 hectares. No new fires were confirmed in the Northeast Region Wednesday, the release said.
