Northern Ont. motorist faces impaired driving, drug possession charges after traffic stop

A traffic stop has led to impaired driving charges and more for a northern Ontario motorist.

On Feb. 11 at about 1 a.m., members of the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment conducted a traffic stop on Cedar Street in Kapuskasing, Ont., said police in a news release.

“Officers determined that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance and placed the individual under arrest,” OPP said.

“The driver was transported to the Kapuskasing OPP detachment for further testing.”

According to authorities, a subsequent search resulted in the discovery of suspected cocaine.

As a result of the incident, the driver, a 41-year-old from Constance Lake, was charged with drug possession along with two impaired driving charges.

In addition to the charges the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle stopped was impounded for seven days by police.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on March 17.
