Man charged with attempting to kidnap a child in North Bay

A 24-year-old man has been charged with trying to abduct a child in a scary incident that took place in the afternoon of May 21 in North Bay.

Police said the attempted kidnapping took place in the area of Marshall Park Drive and Labreche Drive around 3 p.m.

“A young person was in the area of Marshall Park Drive and Labreche Drive with a parent,” police said in a news release May 22.

“The accused approached the young person and a brief altercation occurred, during which it is alleged the accused attempted to abduct the young person. The accused then fled the area on foot. The parties were not known to each other.”

Arrested on Lakeshore Drive

He was arrested a short time later in the 500 block of Lakeshore Drive and charged with assault and trying to abduct someone under the age of 14.

He is being held in custody following a bail hearing Friday and will return to court May 27.

“There may be additional information relevant to the investigation, which remains ongoing,” police said.

“Due to the nature of the investigation, the name of the accused will not be released at this time.”
