Kirkland Lake police investigating an incident on Government Road last week

CTV News had received reports that gunshots were heard in the vicinity of Government Road in Kirkland Lake on Thursday night and several people wearing all back were spotted running away and getting into a pickup truck.

Ontario Provincial Police spokesperson Const. Shelby Olson told CTVNorthernOntario.ca in an email, that there is an ongoing investigation into the incident.

“Police have searched and cleared the area and residence with no evidence of gunfire,” she said.

Provincial police had surrounding detachments and Quebec police services to assist with containing the roadways in the area with negative results on the involved vehicle passing through the area.

The Kirkland Lake Crime Unit has been engaged to assist with the investigation.

“At this time, police believe that this is related to controlled drugs and substances and that there is no immediate threat to the public,” said Olson.
