City-wide outdoor fire ban declared in Timmins

Due to high heat & dry conditions, Timmins & other northern Ontario communities have imposed fire bans with open flames, campfires & burning permits suspended.

A city-wide fire ban is now in place, the Timmins Fire Department said June 4.

In a news release, fire officials said the ban is required because of the hot, dry weather.

“This ban applies to all areas within the municipal boundaries of the City of Timmins and will remain in effect until further notice,” the release said.

“Under the fire ban, all open-air burning and open flames are prohibited.”

Fire permits suspended

That means all burning permits are suspended and no campfires are allowed. The ban extends to campfires, outdoor fireplaces and fire pits, incinerator burning and brush and slash pile burning.

“Propane-fueled fire pits and propane or natural gas barbecues are permitted and may continue to be used with caution,” fire officials said.

“Residents are reminded that any person who sets or maintains an open-air fire during the fire ban may be held responsible for any resulting damages, suppression costs and may be subject to fines and other penalties.”
