Young Canadiens fan fighting cancer gets gift package from team

A young Canadiens fan who is battling cancer received a gift from his favourite NHL team and a special treat from his favourite player, Lane Hutson.

A young hockey fan is walking around with a pretty big smile these days, after receiving a special delivery from his favourite NHL team, the Montreal Canadiens.

H.R. Kelly was surprised with some Canadiens swag and a puck signed by his top player, Lane Hutson.

Only four-and-a-half years old, last month, the boy was diagnosed with leukemia. He spent weeks in the hospital.

A family friend who works with the team found out and arranged to have the team send some gifts to brighten his day.

His mother, Amanda Strolovitch, was thrilled. She said the gift package contained pyjamas, a Habs ball cap, an Arber Xhekaj bobblehead, and the prized puck.

She expressed appreciation to the Canadiens organization for the contribution that brightened her son’s day.

“I just want to say whatever you guys do for this community, you have no idea the impact it has on the kids and the families, and I just want to say thank you for that gesture,” she said.

H.R. is now back home after four weeks in hospital. Tonight, he’ll be going to bed in his brand new Habs PJs to sleep in his own bed.
