Quebec police hand out over 400 tickets to snowmobilers in 2-day operation

Quebec provincial police (SQ) and the Quebec snowmobiling club federation (FCMQ) handed out over 400 tickets to riders during a two-day operation.

On Jan. 25 and 26, agents from the two organizations pulled over more than 3,000 snowmobiles and trailers to ensure that they were following the rules, according to an SQ news release.

Fines or warnings were issued for the following offences:

• Not wearing a helmet;
• Impaired driving due to alcohol, drugs or a combination of both;
• Failure to obey mandatory stops and signs;
• Excessive speed;
• Driving on public roads or in unauthorized areas;
• Failure to hold a driving licence, registration, third party liability insurance and a valid right of access to the trails.

The release said that officers also spoke to many riders and answer questions about snowmobiling in the province.
