Collision between train and fuel truck causes spill in Montreal

A train struck a fuel truck in Montreal Friday morning, spilling about 8,000 litres of gasoline and ethanol.

CN crews responded to the collision, which happened around 10 a.m. at a level crossing at the railway’s yard on Hickmore Street in the borough of Saint-Laurent.

The Montreal fire department’s hazardous materials team was called in for support half-an-hour later, though there were no fires reported. It says the spill is now under control and no one was injured.

CN says “all measures are being taken to minimize the environmental impact.”

“CN would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused by this incident,” it said in a statement.
