After 2 candidates tied in Montreal East municipal election, winner to be chosen in draw

After two candidates in the municipal election in the on-island suburb of Montreal East tied each other, the winner will now be chosen by a draw.

Candidates Audrey Bordeleau and Julie Larivée each won 81 votes in the Nov. 2 election as the only ones running for council in District 1.

A judicial recount last Friday confirmed the tie.

The winner is set to be chosen in the lottery Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the council chamber at Montreal East City Hall under the supervision of the returning office in accordance with the law to break the tie.

The draw will be open to the public.

In Côte-Des-Neiges, Projet Montréal’s Emilie Brière (Projet) defeated Ensemble Montréal’s Yvonne Nguyen by just six votes. Meanwhile, in Lachine, Ensemble Montréal’s Dominic Roussel won by just eight votes and in L’Île-Bizard—Sainte-Geneviève, the party’s Richard Bélanger won by 11 votes.
