Snow mixed with ice pellets in upcoming forecast

A bit of sunshine to get you through your Wednesday, but there is increasing cloud cover late this afternoon and a low pressure system that’ll be moving by to the south.

According to CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison, this system brings the risk of a wintery mix.

“The weather system coming in brings yes, the potential for some freezing rain, ice pellets and some snowfall. We see it materializes on the forecast model with snowfall in London developing overnight. So anytime after midnight, possibly about two to four centimeters of snow, there’ll be freezing rain mixing in with this toward Essex County.”

Chatham Kent, the southern parts of those areas as well as Elgin County will be starting with some snow, but could see some ice pellets mixing in and the potential for a brief period of freezing rain in the morning.

If this low shifts a bit further northward, Atchison said we will see some freezing rain after the morning hours.

“The bulk of the energy will be well off to the east by about noon hour with the exception, Grey and Bruce County will still be into some snowfall,” she said. “You’ll need to get your shovels out.”

According to Atchison, temperatures will be holding fairly steady late afternoon into the evening and not much of a drop off overnight — minus five to about minus six, a bit colder as we head towards the Bruce Peninsula at about minus seven.

Wednesday night: Mainly cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries this evening and after midnight. Snow mixed with ice pellets beginning after midnight. Risk of freezing rain overnight. Snow and ice pellet amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind east 20 km/h gusting to 40. Low minus 6. Wind chill near minus 13.

Thursday: Snow ending late in the morning then cloudy. Risk of freezing rain in the morning. Snowfall amount 2 cm. Wind becoming west 30 km/h gusting to 50 near noon. High plus 2. Wind chill minus 10 in the morning.

Friday: Sunny. High minus 4.

Saturday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of snow. High minus 2.

Sunday: Cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 3.
