Strip club shooting trial delayed after accused’s lawyer withdraws

The trial of Kwabena Anhwere, charged in a 2023 shooting at a downtown strip club, has been adjourned after dismissing his lawyer.

The trial of a 44-year-old man charged with shooting up a downtown London strip club was scheduled to get underway on Monday morning but it was abruptly adjourned after his defence lawyer Aaron Prevost, asked the court to be removed as counsel.

Kwabena Anhwere, 44, who faces a rash of weapons-related offences, including discharging a firearm at the Solid Gold strip club on Dundas Street, was questioned by Justice Spencer Nicholson to confirm the dismissal.

No one was injured during the incident downtown which took place in April 2023.

The matter has now been put over until April 14 to give Anhwere enough time to obtain a new lawyer.

The accused has been remanded in custody.
