South Bruce OPP say that more than $150,000 has already been lost in scams in 2025

Despite the fact that we’re only 41 days into the year, South Bruce OPP say that they’ve received reports of 26 fraud related incidents in their jurisdiction.

The scope of fraudulent activities was vast, ranging from fraudsters calling impersonating bank employees, to marketplace scams.

Some of the largest losses reported so far included $15,500 lost after a fraudster impersonated a financial institution and gained access to the victim’s online banking, and $100,000 lost in a catfishing incident.

Police say that the unfortunate reality is that it’s important that residents exercise caution when solicited for information. They issued a reminder that businesses or government agencies will never ask to be sent codes or gift cards.

Always confirm contact with phone numbers and other contact information you know to be legitimate.
